Dr. Mitchell Shiffman:
Dr. Shiffman is the director of Bon Secours Liver Institute at Richmond Virginia where he is involved with patient care and research. He has been a liver specialist with more than 30 years of experience and is an internationally recognized authority on liver disease. He got his Doctor of Medicine from State University of New York Upstate. He did his internship and residency in internal medicine and fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology at the Medical College of Virginia Hospitals in Richmond, VA. He has participated in numerous medication trials. He has done 300 medical publications on a variety of liver disorders and has edited two books on liver disease. He was the author of two pivotal trials on ursodiol, leading to FDA approval of ursodiol for gallstone prevention and they are part of the presentation tonight. He has published extensively on obesity in association with liver disorders.
Dr. Robert Busch:
Dr. Busch is an internationally recognized endocrinologist who is affiliated with Albany medical health in New York. He earned his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania and completed his residency training at North Shore University Hospital and finished a fellowship in endocrinology at Albany Medical College. He has been treating patients and doing research for more than 20 years and has published extensively on diagnosis and management of diabetes and its complications. He has been involved in numerous trials with GLP-1s and GIP and has participated in launching them in the United States and other countries. He has many publications on GLP-1s and GIP including one of the earliest articles in 2007 discussing their link to weight loss.
